The Five Workshops

Family and Systemic Constellations is an experiential approach that brings hidden relationships within families, inner systems, and organizations into view.

In a constellation, participants may be invited to represent a person, relationship, symptom, resource, or another element of the issue being explored. Representatives do not act out a story. They notice the sensations, feelings, images, thoughts, and movements that arise from their particular place within the constellation.

Participation in exercises and representation is always voluntary. You may participate actively or attend as an observer.

These workshops invite us to look beyond the individual and toward the larger systems of belonging, relationship, history, and fate that shape our lives.

Symptom Constellations

Health and Illness in the Family Soul

Modern medicine has developed extraordinary knowledge about the mechanisms of illness. Yet health and illness also unfold at the intersection of body, biography, relationship, trauma, and family history.

What if a symptom is not simply an enemy to defeat? What if it is also an expression of the organism’s attempt to protect life, restore balance, or bring attention to something that has remained unacknowledged?

Family Constellations invites us to look beyond the individual and into what Bert Hellinger called the family soul: the larger field of belonging that connects us with our parents, siblings, ancestors, and others whose fates became deeply intertwined with our family.

Unresolved grief, exclusion, violence, secrets, and loss may continue to reverberate through a family system. At times, a symptom appears to preserve the memory of someone who was forgotten or to express something that could not previously be spoken.

What We Will Explore

  • Symptoms as meaningful expressions rather than meaningless malfunctions
  • How biography can become biology
  • The possible relationship between symptoms, trauma, and family history
  • Belonging and exclusion within the family soul
  • How constellations can help us listen to symptoms
  • A live symptom constellation for one participant

This workshop does not diagnose or treat illness and is not a replacement for medical care, psychotherapy, or other qualified professional treatment.

Blended

Working with Complex Family Systems

Blended families bring together far more than two people. They bring together children, biological parents, step-parents, former partners, losses, loyalties, family cultures, and histories that began long before the present relationship.

Love may be abundant, but love alone does not create order.

Bert Hellinger described the Orders of Love as organizing principles — the underlying physics of relationships. These principles concern belonging, the balance between giving and receiving, and the order of time and precedence.

When someone who belongs is ignored, replaced, or excluded, the effects are often carried by other members of the family. A child may reject a step-parent they genuinely like out of loyalty to a biological parent. A new partner may feel they are competing with a former partner. Children may become caught between two homes, two sets of values, and two forms of belonging.

What We Will Explore

  • Who belongs within a blended family system
  • Why former partners must be acknowledged
  • The difference between biological parents and step-parents
  • Loyalty conflicts experienced by children
  • Time, precedence, and each person’s appropriate place
  • The balance between giving and receiving
  • Boundaries rooted in love and dignity
  • A live constellation involving a complex family system

The Law of Three

Using Constellations to Move Through Stuckness

There are places in life where movement seems to stop.

We may know what we want and work hard to change, yet find ourselves returning to the same relationship pattern, symptom, conflict, addiction, creative block, or inability to take the next meaningful step.

From an individual perspective, we often treat stuckness as failure, resistance, or self-sabotage. From a systemic perspective, what appears to be the problem may also be a solution to a deeper problem operating within a larger context.

Stuckness may protect us. It may preserve our belonging. It may express loyalty to someone in the family system or prevent something painful from coming into view.

The Law of Three describes three forces involved in genuine transformation: an initiating force, an opposing force, and a reconciling force.

What We Will Explore

  • Why willpower and analysis may deepen stuckness
  • The hidden intelligence within resistance
  • Problems that function as solutions on another level
  • Initiating, opposing, and reconciling forces
  • Family loyalty, protection, and belonging
  • How constellations reveal the larger system
  • The movement that follows acknowledgment
  • A live constellation focused on stuckness

The Orders of Success

Understanding the Deeper Dimensions of Finding Success in Life

Success is not only money, recognition, or achievement. It includes health, relationships, creativity, meaningful work, vitality, and our capacity to participate fully in life.

We may consciously desire success while unconsciously experiencing it as dangerous. If members of our family endured poverty, persecution, exclusion, failure, or tremendous sacrifice, surpassing them may feel like a betrayal. Remaining small can preserve a hidden sense of innocence and belonging.

Success is also connected with our capacity to receive. When our early movement toward support is interrupted, later movements toward love, work, money, creativity, visibility, and participation may become difficult.

What We Will Explore

  • Success as full participation in life
  • The relationship between receiving and succeeding
  • Interrupted movements toward support
  • Fear of visibility, asking, and stepping forward
  • Procrastination and self-sabotage
  • Loyalty to family hardship or failure
  • Blind loyalty and conscious love
  • Moving toward success while honoring where we came from
  • A live success constellation

The Orders of Helping

How Unconscious Entanglements Prevent Us from Truly Helping

Helping is one of the most beautiful human impulses. It can also become entangled with unmet needs, family histories, guilt, grief, and the unconscious desire to rescue others.

We may try to give what we do not possess, assume responsibility for what another adult must carry, or become so identified with someone’s suffering that we lose sight of their strength.

The Orders of Helping offer a disciplined and compassionate way of supporting others. They ask us to respect circumstances, limits, responsibility, family belonging, and fate. They invite us to stand beside another person without taking their place.

This workshop may be especially valuable for therapists, coaches, healers, educators, caregivers, parents, and anyone who frequently feels responsible for others.

What We Will Explore

  • The difference between helping and rescuing
  • How helpers become substitute parents or partners
  • How our family history enters helping relationships
  • Giving only what we have
  • Meeting adult clients and loved ones as adults
  • Respecting circumstances, limits, and another person’s path
  • Helping without judgment, pity, or regret
  • Standing beside another person without carrying their life
  • A live constellation focused on helping

Lucian Schloss

LMHC · Psychotherapist & Constellation Facilitator

A psychotherapist and facilitator of Family and Systemic Constellations, Lucian Schloss has worked with individuals, couples, and groups for more than 15 years to uncover the hidden dynamics that shape our lives and relationships.

His path began in traditional psychotherapy, but he soon realized that many challenges—whether in love, health, or work—couldn't be fully understood on an individual level alone. This led him to the transformative practice of Family Constellations, where healing arises by seeing ourselves as part of a greater whole.

In his work he draws from systemic principles, depth psychology, astrology, and Rudolf Steiner's insights into human development. What ties all of this together is a deep respect for the soul's movements toward truth, love, and belonging.

He holds monthly workshops in the Hudson Valley (Upstate NY) and New York City, and offers ongoing work for individuals and groups. Lucian Schloss Counseling · Great Barrington, MA 01230
